发言提纲：在西方背景下展示亚洲民族精神
在西方社会看来，亚洲情节具有很大的相关性和亲和力，有其内在的、固有的活力和图案敏感度。像保罗克利，康定斯基，罗伯特等艺术家已经领悟亚洲精神，深受艺术启发。受到东方灵感的启发，保罗克利改变他的调色板空间、符号化的表达，并采用了二维空间。同样，即使在今天，像康定斯基，罗切博格等西方艺术家的作品也深受东方影响。
历史证明不同文化的交叉融合会促进新的表达方式的发展。当代印度艺术吸收了这种精神和概念，使其不再受限于当代，而具有国际意义。印度文化的多样性为创作提供了充分的思想空间，并目前的艺术实践中得以体现。
国家现代艺术画廊曾在西方的重要博物馆多次成功举办具有里程碑意义的综合展览，展出大师作品。
该发言将介绍一些在西方博物馆举办的具有开拓意义的展览，如在圣地亚哥美术馆和费城博物馆举办的“印度节奏：玻色的艺术”。名为“阿姆里塔舍尔吉：20世纪阿德孔斯特的一个艺术家家庭”的展览在德国慕尼黑和伦敦泰特现代美术馆展出。展览“视觉轨迹”在南非开普敦国家画廊、德班艺术画廊和有非洲窗口之称的比勒陀利亚国家文化历史博物馆展出。展览“当前印度艺术：印度艺术的连续性和转化”在意大利普罗温迪，米兰和其他许多城市展出。
同样，国家现代艺术画廊也一直与西方机构合作，在该馆主办西方艺术家的展览。如与维多利亚和艾伯特博物馆合办“西方艺术家笔下的印第安生活和景观：1790年至1927年间绘画”展览。同样，印度几家博物馆和俄罗斯国际罗瑞克中心合办了名为“尼古拉罗瑞克：永恒的追求”展览。
国立现代艺术画廊
导言：
国立现代艺术画廊（NGMA）成立于1954年，作为一个新独立的国家的现代艺术博物馆，该馆收藏和展示了150多年印度现代艺术精品。该博物馆正式成立时，由当时的副总统拉达克里希南博士揭牌，当时的总理贾瓦哈拉尔尼赫鲁也出席了仪式。作为文化部的下属机构，该馆的使命一直是保存现代和当代视觉、塑料和新媒体艺术精品。
NGMA的主要目标是培养市民对艺术表达尤其是当代艺术理念的敏感性、认识和理解。通过文化交流，展示国际艺术，并向国外介绍印度现代和当代艺术。展览的目的是让所有年龄和经验的观众，看到当代生活经验在艺术中的反映。
凭借其在新德里的总部，NGMA在孟买和班加罗尔也有区域中心。作为国家的资源，NGMA致力于收集、保存和展示19世纪中叶以来印度现代和当代的艺术。因为印度的现代特性，NGMA的使命意义重大。其独特性在于在印度式的表达形式中完美地融合了西方的美学理念和元素，以及其自身充满活力的历史气息。
Showcasing Asian Ethos in a Western Environment
The Asian sensibility has always enamoured the Western world for its innate, intrinsic vitality and pictorial sensibility that has great relevance and affinity to the region. Artists like Paul Klee, Kandinsky, Robert Rauchenburg etc. have been greatly inspired by what they imagined and discovered of Asia. Paul Klee, truly inspired by the East altered his colour palette his approach to space, symbolic representation and adopted the use of two dimensional spaces. Similarly there is a clear eastern underpinning in the works of Kandinsky, Rauchenburg and many other Western artists across the boundaries of time which is prevalent even today.
History proves that cross pollination of sensibilities from diverse cultures has always contributed to the development of newer ways of representation. Contemporary Indian art has revitalised this spirit and assimilated concepts and ideologies that not only make it contemporary but with an international relevance. The cultural diversity that India offers provides ample and fertile ground for an amalgam of ideas, their representation in current art practices and the evolution of contemprenity.
The National Gallery of Modern Art has in the past with immense amount of success organised comprehensive landmark exhibitions of the works of some of its masters at important museums in the West.
The presentation showcases some of the pioneering and revealing exhibitions organised in important Western museums like ‘Rhythms of India: The Art of Nandalal Bose’ exhibited at the San Diego Museum of Art, San Diego and the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Philadelphia. An exhibition titled ‘Amrita Sher-gil: An Artist Family in the 20th Century’ was showcased at Huas der Kunst, Munich Germany and Tate Modern, London. ‘Visual Trajectories’ featuring the works of some of India’s premier contemporary artists exhibited at IZIKO South African National Gallery, Cape Town, Durban Art Gallery, Durban and The African Window: National Cultural History Museum, Pretoria. An exhibition titled ‘India Art Now: Contemporary Indian Art between Continuity and Transformation’ was exhibited at Provincia di Milano, Milan, Italy along with many others.
Similarly the National Gallery of Modern Art has been collaborating with various Western institutions to host exhibitions of Western artists at the NGMA. Such as ‘Indian Life and Landscape by Western Artists: Paintings and Drawings from the V&A 1790-1927’ held in collaborations with the Victoria & Albert Museum, London. Similarly an exhibition of the works of Nicholas Roerich titled ‘Nicholas Roerich: An Eternal Quest’ was hosted in collaboration with several museums across India and the International Centre for the Roerichs, Russia.
